Watercolour Basics Course

11th, 12th and 18th September

at my studio during Devon Open Studios

A series of three 2-hour sessions to introduce beginners to watercolour and for those who feel they need a refresher course. Celia likes to create an encouraging and relaxing atmosphere where you not only learn but have fun. If you’ve never done watercolour, or were told at school you couldn’t do art, or are terrified of watercolour, or feel you need a refresher, then this is for you.

Session 1 – The brush and paper
There will give be tips on which brushes and paper are best to start with. Exercises to see what a brush can do and how to lay various types of washes. The session will finish with a simple painting putting all this into practice.

Session 2 – The colour palette
This session will cover which colours are the best to start with, explanation of the colour wheel, how to get vibrant colour mixes. You will learn how to produce skies to set the tone for a painting.

Session 3 - Composition and perspective
Some basic tips on what can sometimes be a tricky problem: what do you put in and what do you leave out in order to produce a pleasing painting and how to portray a 3-D impression on a 2-D piece of paper.

Sessions will start at 10.30am and finish at 12.30. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided.

£35 for all three sessions which includes use of basic materials. If you can only manage one or two sessions - £12.50 per session.
