Art at Sea

Last year (2019) I visited the Arctic and the Baltic. In March I was aboard mv Marco Polo on a cruise to the North Cape in Norway. What magical scenery still covered in thick snow, and we were blessed with some beautiful sunny weather. In ports we went for some lovely walks ashore with lots of sketching opportunities.

In the autumn I was on board mv Magellan to Baltic cities – including Copenhagen, Tallinn, Helsinki and St Petersburg. Immediately on our return to Bristol we drove to Tilbury to join mv Marco Polo for a cruise to Iceland, with calls to the Faroes and Orkneys. Again more lovely sketching opportunities, especially on the Golden Circle trip – what scenery!

Then in December we embarked mv Marco Polo for the Christmas Cruise to the Canaries and Madeira. After a choppy crossing southwards we had some sunny warm days. So much to paint; whatever the weather I was out on deck with my sketchbook.

As always on these cruises I meet some lovely people who come to my classes. I really enjoy encouraging them to have a go at watercolour. Many people tell me after the cruises that they have joined art groups and classes and some send me pictures of their paintings, which I really enjoy seeing.
